The saffron

Only the red tip of the stigma

Super Negin is the most select grade of Iranian saffron. This is the saffron that reaches your kitchen.

Super Negin saffron threads on slate
Super Negin: only the red tip of the stigma, in whole threads.

What Super Negin means

Each Crocus sativus flower has three stigmas. For Super Negin, only the thick, even red part is separated by hand, and the yellow style, which adds little colour or aroma, is discarded. The result is long, clean whole threads of a deep red.

Saffron field in bloom at the foot of a mountain

From Qaen, Iran

Qaen lies in South Khorasan, Iran’s most traditional saffron region. Its dry climate and cold nights give saffron with plenty of colour and aroma. The flower opens in autumn and is picked by hand before dawn, while it is still closed.

Colour

Deep, even red. It turns stock a rich golden yellow.

Aroma

Floral, with notes of honey and hay. You notice it as soon as you open the pack.

Flavour

Slightly bitter and long-lasting. A few threads are enough.
